About Us

A smile for every child

Right 2 Smile is a Maltese NGO (VO/0583) that brings together responsible volunteering with sustainable community development projects around the world. Right 2 Smile gives everyone a platform to be creative, and to be part of a family of motivated and inspired individuals who help each other and to see our work manifest with the people we have come to love both locally and across the world.

Right 2 Smile is a completely self-sustainable, non-profit organization and one of the core pillars we believe very strongly in, is being totally transparent in all our operations.

Our international volunteer placement programmes generate enough revenue to cover the administration costs behind these same programmes.

Donations are 100% invested in our existing local community development projects in Malta, Cambodia and Kenya.

Funds raised through events organised by the Right 2 Smile team and volunteers are invested in project development, day to day running, but also in expanding our reach to more countries around the world.

Our Pillars

Our primary aim is working on education that we believe is paramount to the positive development of children and youths regardless of gender, age, race or religion. We do this through the following 5 pillars:

Environment

Through direct and indirect action we aim at promoting good habits and policies to sustain the environment around the comunities. We aim to instil environketally friendly initiatives on our projects and provide environmental education opportunities to the children and youth.

Sports

At its core, sports is about togetherness being fair and leading a healthy lifestyle. On every project we involve physical activities to promote all of these values.

 

Capacity Building

We focus on the empowerment and growth of our partners by offereing training and employment opportunities. Our partners are supported to become self-sustained as the long-term goal.

Culture

In a world that keeps becoming increasingly globaised, customs, habits and any aspect tha makes a culture unique, needs to be embraced and treasured so that they can be preserved. This is particularly targeted in our values, our approach with partners and in our training of volunteers.

Health

We recognise that a thriving community is a healthy one. We work towards having children that are happy, safe and sound, providing health education - such as instilling in them the habit of washing hands and brushing their teeth - and organising medical outreach camps in areas in which public, free, health systems are not in place.

Our Journey

September 8, 2011

First International Partnership

We met our first community partner MAACOP in the Maasai village of Olasiti and began our journey.

November 2, 2011

Setting up our Foundation

Right 2 Smile was founded as VO/0583 under Maltese law by founder Damien Attard

August 23, 2012

First volunteer group

The first ever group of six Right 2 Smile volunteers went to Olasiti Kenya and were hosted by families within the Maasai community.

April 16, 2013

Second international Partnership

We began our second international partnership with the Bodhi Tree Foundation in Bodh Gaya India

November 20, 2014

Third international Partnership

Our next partnership was in Cambodia with the New Futures Organisation (NFO) in the province of Takeo

January 26, 2016

First project in Malta

After much discussion with local entities working in Malta, a youth group in St Lucija was set up with the support of local volunteers with the aim of creating safe spaces for youth in the community

March 11, 2018

Our Second project in Malta endorsed by The Malta Trust Foundation

Following the success of the St Lucija Youth Mentorship Programme, the Malta Trust Foundation decided to extend the benefits of this project and endorse Programm Tbissima to be opened in the locality of Marsa
February 2022

Third project in Malta

After acquiring a new space in Valletta, Right 2 Smile opened its doors to its third hub, offering a safe space for youths
May 13, 2023

Fourth International Partnership

A new collaboration with iHelp Africa who works in Ghana was set up and the final details were established for the organisation to start hosting R2S volunteers
